God Bless America

If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth.  –Deuteronomy 28:1

The United States of America: what a great country in which to live.  Do we truly understand and appreciate just how much God has blessed this nation and that so undeservedly?  Consider that in many other countries in the world individual expression is not permitted.  In some oppressive regimes people lack the freedom to speak their minds and state their ideas.  Such speech would not be permitted and would be quickly squelched.  As a preacher, I know that I am fortunate to live in a country where my right to stand in a pulpit and preach the Bible is protected by the Constitution.  Don’t forget that those same rights exist for those who wish to stand up and disagree with me on matters of faith and theology.

As we think about what a great nation we live in we would be remiss if we did not think about the countless people who paid the ultimate sacrifice that we might enjoy these freedoms we hold dear.  Let us never take for granted those who fought for our country and gave their lives so that we can be a free country.  Also remember to pray for those who are defending those freedoms all around the world.  They deserve our prayers and our respect.

On this Independence Day I say God bless America.  And my sincerest prayer is that God’s blessings would continue and reside upon us., and that we would truly be one nation under God.

Freedom: Don’t take it for granted, and thank God for it.
